Government-backed 95% mortgage guarantee scheme launches

Many of the UK’s lenders have TODAY launched their new 95% Loan To Value (LTV) deals with help from the government’s mortgage guarantee scheme.


Why has this happened?

During the pandemic it’s become more difficult to obtain a mortgage, particularly in the first-time buyer market, where lenders have become much more risk-averse and often require deposits of between 15 and 20 per cent of the price of the property.


Who will be helped

Well, today’s initiative aims to help those with lower deposits onto the housing ladder by offering incentives to lenders in order to provide 95% Loan To Value (LTV) mortgages.


What is the Mortgage Guarantee Scheme

The mortgage guarantee scheme will allow buyers to acquire properties, valued up to £600,000, with a 5% deposit


The chancellor Rishi Sunak has described the scheme as “a policy that gives people who can’t afford a big deposit the chance to buy their own home”.
